Post-Doctoral Fellow - Project Search and Grant Development
The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) is an innovative organization that focuses on bridging the gap between academic discoveries in the health sciences and the development of new medicines to treat human diseases. With operational facilities located on the campuses of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU), and the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA), CDRD has established a novel drug development platform. By working closely with Canadian academic researchers and the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry, CDRD provides a collaborative framework through which drug development can become sustainable, cost-effective, and advantageous to society.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Head, Project Search, the Postdoctoral Fellow, Project Search and Grant Development will assist in identifying and developing project opportunities for CDRD, as well as identifying and preparing associated grant applications.
Responsibilities
- Working with the CDRD Search Team to liaise with academic investigators for the purpose of identifying potential drug development projects.
- Assist the CDRD Search Team in the development of a preliminary assessment of a potential project for consideration by CDRD’s internal project review team.
- Working within and across the CDRD teams responsible for the initial evaluation of the commercial and therapeutic potential of drug development projects
- Assist with CDRD’s outreach initiatives.
- Assisting the Manager, Business Development, in identifying and securing funding for CDRD projects and strategic initiatives that support the commercialization of drug discovery.
- Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Recent completion, of a PhD in life sciences or related scientific discipline.
- Preferred candidates will be flexible, with a determination to further their skills in multiple areas.
- Willingness to contribute to and work in a team environment is required.
- A good publication record
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Expertise or experience in an area of drug research is an asset
- Experience preparing and writing grants is desirable
- A desire to build a career in the commercial sector of drug development
