Job Description

The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) is an innovative organization that focuses on bridging the gap between academic discoveries in the health sciences and the development of new medicines to treat human diseases. With operational facilities located on the campuses of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU), and the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA), CDRD has established a novel drug development platform. By working closely with Canadian academic researchers and the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry, CDRD provides a collaborative framework through which drug development can become sustainable, cost-effective and advantageous to society.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Drug Delivery, the Postdoctoral fellow will work with CDRD Scientists and others to develop and test novel drug formulations and drug delivery systems. The individual in this role will contribute to collaborative research, working in a team-oriented product development focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel formulations and drug delivery systems within the scope of CDRD research projects to enable preclinical testing of drug compounds.

• Determine the physical and chemical properties of drugs and drug formulations and assess their biological effects.

• Conduct studies in support of multiple drug development projects.

• Manage small project teams.

• Prepare study reports; present and discuss data/results in meetings.

• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• A PhD in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry or a related Life Science

• Knowledge/experience in at least two of the following areas is a must:

o Characterization and formulation of new drug compounds;

o drug delivery systems;

o analytical assay development;

o preclinical / biological testing of drug formulations.

• Requires a high degree of self-motivation, creativity, initiative and flexibility.

• Preferred candidates will be flexible, with a determination to further their skills in multiple areas.

• Multi-tasking team player with strong written and oral communications skills.
