Peter obtained a B.Sc. in Chemistry and a minor in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. Following that, he left for the east coast and completed his Ph.D. at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Professor André Charette where he pioneered the work on amidinium-triflate methodologies. Afterwards, Peter left for the left coast again, but this time as an F.C.A.R. postdoctoral fellow with Professor Larry Overman at the University of California, Irvine where he was part of the team that completed the total synthesis of the marine natural product Sarain A. Peter’s nine years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry includes drug discovery and development in large and small companies. He started in the Process Research and Development Division at Pfizer Global R&D in Groton, Connecticut. After a few years a return to the west coast brought Peter to Merck Research Laboratories in San Diego, California. In the last few years, Peter was has been applying his experience in the area of oncology at Cylene Pharmaceuticals (San Diego, CA). At this small and highly focused cancer drug company, Peter was the inventor and first to synthesize CX-4945, the first casein kinase 2 (CK2) inhibitor to enter clinical trials.
