Dr. Ciufolini is a Tier I CRC Chair in Chemistry. Dr. Ciufolini has been involved in the creation of AB Science, SA, in France, and is head of chemistry for this company. One of their tyrosine kinase inhibitors is currently in phase II clinical trials for a veterinary cancer and in phase I for two types of human cancer. Dr. Ciufolini has contributed materially to the conception of the drug and to its chemical development. Dr. Ciufolini has been a consultant for BioNumerik, Inc., of San Antonio, Texas for eleven years. One of their camptothecin derivatives is currently in phase II and a chemoprotective agent that reduces the side effects of cisplatin is in phase III. Dr. Ciufolini has advised the company on all stages of their chemical development, from lab-scale synthesis to production under GMP conditions.
