FAQs for Graduate Student Interns

Why would an internship with the CDRD Training Program be of benefit to my graduate student?

We believe the internship will benefit students who are interested in drug discovery and development research and/or who are considering a career in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. The student would have access to CDRD training program, including workshops, drug development seminars, cross-functional team training, and other mentorship opportunities.

Would my graduate student continue to work in my lab during the internship with CDRD?

No. The graduate student would work on a discreet project at CDRD during this time.

Would I continue to pay a stipend to my grad student, during the internship with CDRD?

No. CDRD will provide a stipend to the graduate student to cover their salary.

If I do not want my student accepting an internship with CDRD, what happens?

It is the responsibility of the student to have discussed the internship opportunity with their Graduate program Supervisor. The student must have the full support of their Supervisor and Dean or Department/Unit Head. CDRD will not consider candidates that have not received prior approval.

Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to provide verification documenting the following:

  • Approval from their Graduate Program Supervisor and Department, granting permission to join CDRD as a Graduate Student Intern for a 4-6 month period.
  • The Graduate Student Intern’s supervisor understands and agrees that the intern will not undertake any part of their graduate studies while they are an intern at CDRD

How long is a Grad Student Internship with CDRD?

It is expected that an internship will last 4 months.

Should my student take a leave of absence?

In most cases, students will opt to take a leave of absence from the University so they can effectively put their studies on hold while completing the internship at CDRD.
