The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) is an innovative organization that focuses on bridging the gap between academic discoveries in the health sciences and the development of new medicines to treat human diseases. Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Business and Strategic Affairs, the Director, Business Development oversees operational Business Development and Intellectual Property Matters on behalf of CDRD.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, builds and manages CDRD’s business development opportunities and relationships with key stakeholders in academia, government and industry.
  • Evaluates, develops and pursues proposals for new business opportunities such as in/out licensing, collaborative research and development agreements, partnership/alliance agreements, funding agreements, term sheets, etc.
  • Oversees business development activities with legal counsel, accounting, finance, operations and other functional areas.
  • Conducts reviews of business plans for promising technologies.
  • Participates as a member of the Portfolio Management Team, responsible for providing market analysis and business cases for potential and ongoing CDRD projects.
  • Directs technology evaluations, market research and market readiness studies developing commercialization strategies for promising projects.
  • Oversees the administration of CDRD contracts and material transfer agreements.
  • Provides updates and reports to senior management as required.
  • Develops and maintains in house infrastructure, policies, and goals for business development as appropriate.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in a life sciences related discipline, MBA or other business training and a minimum of 10 years directly related industry experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in drug discovery and development.
  • Demonstrated success in facilitating and concluding business transactions and partnerships.
  • Demonstrated success in networking, establishing and building relationships at the senior management level, and identifying strategic business development opportunities for life sciences technologies.
  • Brings an extensive network in life sciences including contacts from industry, academia and/or government.
  • Excellent working knowledge of intellectual property matters, with an ability to identify, analyze and present critical issues.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating and closing business transactions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills, along with the ability to interact with staff in all parts of the organization;
  • Good problem solving and conflict resolution capability.
